Elements of a Short Story

Short Story Element	What is it?	Example.
Setting	Is "when and where" the story takes place. Can there are many aspects in the story like a: place, time, weather conditions, social conditions, mood or atmosphere…	The place is open, perhaps in a park where a tree can grow. The story develops over the life of a child from his infancy to old age.
Plot	The plot is developed in the story and is contained in several parts: Introduction, rising action, climax, falling action and denouement.	The story is about as a child loves a tree that gives him everything he ask, the tree loves him too, but over the years the child and only visit the tree when he need something from him. The tree always be asked to play but the child is already an adult says no. Only until the tree has nothing more to give the child decides to stay to rest as he dies.
Conflict	The conflict is the knot of the story, where an opposition is generated, it can be external, internal or man vs. another man, circumstances, society, or himself.	The conflict is that the tree before himself love, loved the child and did not care that this was selfish.
Character	They are making up the story, characters can be understood as the principal and their condescending or antagonistic, but you can also see how the characteristics of a character, whether physical or mental.	The child: Person selfish. Tree: disinterested love.
Point of view	It's like telling a story, depending on the angle you look at it, either: Innocent Eye (like a child) Stream of Consciousness, First Person, Omniscient, Omniscient Limited, Omniscient Objective.	The author can narrate the story using the omniscient point of view.  He can move from character to character, event to event, having free access to the thoughts, feelings and motivations of his characters and he introduces information where and when he chooses.

Passive Voice and Conditionals.

      1. The passive voice tense is used because... 

The passive tense is used because you can put the object or receiver if the action to the subject position, so it is easy to identify parts that constructed a prayer and the transitive verbs.

2. When do we use passive voice? 

We can use passive voice: When the focus is os the action. It is not important or not known.

1. the person who did the action in unknown.

2. it is not important who did the action.

3. it is obvious who did the action.

4. someone is trying to hid who the action.

Past Tense: Is object + to be (past was-were) + past participle + (by subject).

Present progressive is: Object + to be (being) + past participle + (by  subject)

Conditionals

1.       The first conditional is used with tenses: 

Simple present + Simple future.

2.       It is used when a situation is real or possible.

Example:

 If  I drink too much, I'll get drunk.

3.       The second conditional is used with 

Simple past + would or could, might 

Example:

If  I were you, I would love me all life.

4.       The verb to be in this case we used in plural like that: 

I was x I were.

           5. In the third conditional is used :

           Past perfect +  would/could/might + Present Perfect

28	Simple past	These bottles are make of plastic. These bottles are made of plastic.	Made is the past of Make.
29	Simple present	Do you know where did I put the keys? Do you know where I put the keys?	I don't need the auxiliary "did" because the question begins with "do”. Is incoherent.
30	Present perfect simple.	Magda knows a lot about badgers, but she hasn’t ever saw a live one. Magda knows a lot about badgers, but she hasn’t ever seen a live one.	The past participle of “see” is “seen”
33	Simple present	You should give to you mother this letter. You should give this letter to your mother.	I should make sentences together coherently.
39	Past progressive.	It’s a pity you’d not be here last night. It’s a pity you weren’t here last night.	The sentence is in past.
49	Present perfect simple	We haven’t got some Polish friends. We haven’t got any Polish friends.	"any" is used in negative sentences.
53		We must go now, call the waitress and ask for the invoice. We must now, call the waitress and ask for the bill.	Invoice is used only for business purpose. I can use the word "bill" as either a verb or noun in a business setting as well, but it is less precise than an invoice.
57	Past progressive	Who was the woman spoke to you? Who was the woman that you were speaking to?	The tense is past progressive.

58	Present simple	Is Mat more tall than his father? Is Mat taller than his father?	"Tall" is an adjective with one syllable, don't need "more"
60	W question.	How long is it here from to Berlin? How far is it here from to Berlin?	how far = asking for kilometers (distance) how long = asking for hours it would take to get there

89	Simple present	We can finish the rest of the eggs for the breakfast. We can finish the rest of the eggs for breakfast.	Is not necessary the article “the”.
